September 2, 2026, Cotabato City. A new generation Bangsamoro leadership has opted to invest in solar arrays photovoltaic (PV) system for capturing peak power at full sunlight in Mindanao. This renewable solar energy initiative will effectively lower the carbon footprint of energy necessary to offset the electrical use of the administrative offices, libraries, as well as sciences-lab and computers-lab facilities at SKIA Co-Location campuses.
“We found it necessary to ensure that the solarized program is a functioning system outfitted with solar arrays,” said Datu Ismael Mastura, the newly installed president of SKIA Foundation College.
Datu Dustin, as fondly called by the faculty and staff, informed us in an interview that the Board of Trustees reviewed the block price that will be adjusted based on market costs. “It was found crucial to ensure the financial sustainability of the solarize panel program for our long-term Campus Master Planning & Facilities Management,” he explained.
The solar arrays PV system is a grid-tied installation of renewable source of power. In simple terms, it is connected to the electrical grid utilizing electricity from both the solar panel system and the electrical grid such that any excess energy is fed into the grid and can be used elsewhere.
Technically, a 20.0 kWp Grid-Tied-Solar Energy System upgradeable to 50.0 kWp Base System was constructed on SKIA facility rooftop together with the sets of solar panels and Grid-Tie-Inverter. The utility of Sunways Solar Inverter/ Deye Inverter functions with a Sunways Portal/ Solarman Apps to monitor the reduction of electrical consumption rates.
A critical component of the renewable energy installation is the Net Metering Scheme of arrangement with the local Cotabato Light and Power Company. The potentials for green economy at SKIA College is to dedicate more roof-space supply outfitted with solar arrays to absorb the high cost of maintaining the radio transmitter for its distance learning communication and broadcasting system.
