June 23, 2021 – Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao. The Sultan Kudarat Islamic Academy (SKIA) trainees have recently completed the Carpentry NC II training conducted under the Special Training for Employment Program (STEP) of the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) – BARMM.
The said training comprises of 38 days intended for both concepts and hands-on applications and with 3-day entrepreneurship training started on March 17, 2021 and finished on May 13, 2021. There were twenty-five (25) qualified trainees who took the training and were assessed last June 22, 2021. Mr. Mokamad S. Kanapia, a holder of National TVET Trainer Certificate (NTTC), handled the training under the supervision of Bai Maha M. Balambag, the SKIA-TESD focal person.
STEP is a community-based specialty training program under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) that seeks to address the specific needs of the communities and promote employment, particularly, through entrepreneurial, self-employment and service oriented activities. It differs from other TESDA skills training programs because aside from the free training and competency assessment, scholars will also receive starter tool kits and training allowance during the duration of the program.
